Type-M is compatible with all current Fujifilm xD digital cameras. However it is not compatible with the M603; F700; A345; A350; A360 and A370. Also the following cameras may take longer to write to the card or experience interruption of movie recording at 640 x 480 pixels - S5000; S7000; F610 and S20. The following cameras can be made compatible with a firmware upgrade - A330; A340; F710 and A120 which can be downloaded from www.fujifilm.co.uk/media/xdtypem. The Type M card was released in February 2005 and uses Multi Level Cell (MLC) architecture to achieve a theoretical storage capacity of up to 8 GB.

Currently they are available up to 2 GB in size.

Due to changes in the cards' storage architecture over the original xD card (i.e. neither Type M or H) there maybe compatibility issues with some older cameras (especially video recording).

These newer cards are also incompatible with some card readers so please check compatibility before purchasing by consulting the manufacturer of your device.

SanDisk provide the Fujifilm / Olympus xD Picture Card as part of their flash memory range - and it is not possible to specify an Olympus xD card or a Fujifilm xD card with the Sandisk packaging.

Transcend provides Type M xD Picture Cards using the Fujifilm / Olympus xD system. The xD picture card is the smallest recording flash media (in standard size) and provides high speed read and write speeds and comes with a 2 year warranty.

The xD card consists of a NAND-type flash memory to record digital image data. The recording process is electrically performed and enables erasure of existing image data as well as re-recording of new image data. Before using a new xD card, or a xD card that has been initialised by a PC, be sure to initialise (or format) the card with your digital camera.

The xD card has dimensions of 25mm x 20mm x 1.7mm and an operating voltage of 3.3v.

It is important to note that some older cameras may have problems working with the new standard Type-M version of the xD picture card. Hence you should check compatibility with your device before purchasing. You can do this by clicking on the link below.
